My wife and I stayed in one of the upstairs cottages, rooms really, but the whole place has a "cottage" feel about it as distinct from the usual hotel room or Motel unit. So room was light, clean, comfortable, spacious and remarkably quiet.
Internally a bit dated, but call it rustic. No problems. Hosts hospitality just right.
We have stayed in at least 6 other accommodation options in Dunedin and will return, so that says it all. Rate 4.
Thank you for your kind feedback, Stewart. We look forward to seeing you next time you visit Dunedin. Kind regards, Pam & John
Lovely place, owners were helpful and really nice. A little noisy but I've had worse
Hi Jaime. Thanks for your positive comments. The city can be a bit noisy when the students are in a festive mood but they do add an energy to the city. Kind regards, John & Pam
Hello Reda, Thank you so much for your positive review. Kind regards, Pam & John.
The cottage was compact but provided all we needed for our stay. The room was clean and had basic utensils sufficent for easy food. The parking was good, the location convenient but we had a car. The host was excellent.
Thanks we would book again.
Thank you for your kind feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Would love to see you again when you are next in town.
Pam & John
We stayed for 4 cosy nights in the Rosemary Cottage... (Studio sleeps 4 + couch bed) In town for a tournament held at the Edgar Centre less than 10min drive away.
Simple with all the amenities required for our stay, great location just outside of town, easy to find, within walking distance to Dairy, Takeaway outlets.
Great hosts, Will definitely be back when we return this time next year.
Thanks for having us :)
We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you so much for your kind comments.
We look forward to seeing you next time you are in town.
John & Pam
Very friendly and helpful staff, but tiny accommodation for price
Thanks for your feedback. Primrose Cottage is indeed 'compact' and we. Alas, it was the only unit we had left when you booked.
All of our other units are very spacious. So next time you book, and we hope that you will, we will make sure that you get one of them.
John & Pam
My friend and I enjoyed staying in this motel. The staff were friendly and helpful. Whilst the motel isn't modernised in terms of the buildings, the accommodation was spotlessly clean, with linen of great quality and beds very comfortable. On one of the main streets so near to shops and cafes etc. Overall a good value place to stay in Dunedin.
Thank you for your kind comments. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. We look forward to seeing you when you are next in town.
Pam & John
This is a tidy motel, with all amenities in good clean, condition. Little road noise, services near by. Near central city.
Hi Robyn, Thank you for your kind feedback. Glad that you enjoyed your stay. See you next time around. Kind regards, Pam & John
Friendly staff in office, lovely crisp white sheets, plenty of room, easy to find and close to my daughter's uni flat
Hello Bridget, So glad that you you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your kind words. We would love to see again you when you are next in Dunedin. Kind regards, John & Pam
As usual - brilliant staff and a great unit - love this place! Its far quieter than down the road near the 24 hr dairy - even if students are partying the noise doesn't seem to carry through the units too much.
Hello Dayle, Always great to see you. Thank you for your kind comments. Look forward to seeing you next time around. Kind regards, Pam & John
Once more a good comfortable stay at the tourist court cottages. Excellent service which is friendly & efficient.
Hello Ian, It was great to have you back with us. Thank you for your kind words. We look forward to seeing you agin when you are next in town. Kind regards, John & Pam.
Overall quite good, friendly and helpful staff, interior a bit dated, needs upgrade particular the bathroom and kitchen, but plenty of parking, free WiFi.
Great unit great owners, great value - nice and quiet for Dunedin and love having a proper oven and a bath! Tv reception a bit pixelated at times but probably not much they can do about that! Will be staying there again in a couple of weeks - and thanks for reintroducing me to an author i hadn't read in years with the bookshelf! Also really enjoyed the Bill Bryson book whilst there too
Hi Dayle, Glad you enjoyed your stay so much - and Bill Bryson. Thanks for your kind words. Look forward to seeing you again. Kind regards, Pam & John
We'd definitely recommend this as a very friendly, comfortable base for visiting Dunedin. The hosts are helpful and welcoming and the accommodation warm, clean and of a high standard - we'd happily book again.
Hello Lovely Moore Family, We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay so much. Thank you for your kind words. We would love to see you when you next stay in Dunedin. Kind regards, John & Pam
Basic, clean, tidy and warm, easy walk to university
Hi John, Thank you for your kind feedback. We look forward to seeing you when you next stay in Dunedin. Kind regards, Pam & John
The manager was very enthusiastic in telling us about the attractions of Dunedin. Also very quick in taking actions when we gave feed back. Would definitely come back to this hotel the next time I visit Dunedin
Hello There, Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We would love to see you when you next stay in town. Kind regards, Pam & John.
Very pleasent and helpful hosts. We were given an upgrade. Owner recommended attractions of the city.Room was clean, tidy and comfortable with the equiped kitchen and bookcase in the lounge.
Only comment is the water flow in the shower was weak.
Thank you for your kind feedback. We try to hit the balance with shower pressure between comfort and conservation. We are sorry if we did not get it quite right for you this time. Kind regards, Pam & John
Friendly owners, very close to the stadium (we stayed overnight after going to the Highlanders game at FBS), clean & spacious room. Would definitely stay again.
Hi Benjamin, We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us. Thank you so much for you kind words. We look forward to seeing you again. Kind regards, John & Pam
We had a comfortable and spacious room - actually 4 rooms, with separate lounge, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom. Mid-winter stay, the heaters in the rooms kept us nice and warm. The room sizes do vary, and some of the rooms nearer the road are tiny, so check if booking a different room (ours was King Arthur).
The TV was small, but adequate for the lounge. Kitchen fine, and good WiFi connection.
Road noise minimal, but we did have people in rooms above us and there is disturbance from people moving around and going up and down stairs. That was probably the only negative.
There are stores and takeaway places nearby for eating out or obtaining suppliers, and it is only 10 mins walk down to the University, museum and Octagon.
Overall, very happy and would stay there again.
Thank you for positive feedback. We would love to see you again.
Pam & John
Whilst our unit was close to the street it was very quiet. The unit was of the highest standard of cleanliness, presentation along with the decor, furnishings and lighting.
The housekeeping staff were courteous, friendly and extreemely proficient in their duties.
Due into unforseen circumstances when an extension to our stay was required our hosts were more than obliging rearranging our booking to suit our new requirements. Our hosts were were obliging in allowing a 11.00 am late checkout. Would definitely consider using again.
Great unit, quiet, good comfy separate lounge and kitchen so no noisy fridge - great rates for special - booked again for next month and friendly owners too!
only drawback is the bath not deep enough! lol
Very cute place, the staff were amazing. No complaints.
Good clean and spacious kitchen. Kitchen well equipped. Value for money
We enjoyed a very comfortable stay in a newly refurbished unit which was one of the nicest I have ever stayed in. Very welcoming and accomodating hosts.
Thank you so much for your very kind words. We look forward to seeing you when you are next in Dunedin.
John & Pam
Clean and tidy unit.
We felt the price was too high for the quality of the unit, as the bathroom and kitchen were quite dated.
Compact accommodation but adequate for 2 or 3. Would be very cosy for more people than that. Has coffee plunger which is always great to see. Bathroom had no heating but we were okay at the time of year we visited. Room smelt of cigarette smoke but the owners were apologetic and doing what they could to alleviate it. Owner was charming and helpful. Good value for maney and handy to everything we needed.
Very friendly service and tasteful furnishing. Lovely homey feel with a big book shelf full of books to look through. Definitely worth visiting for longer.
Very comfortable, affordable, luxurious, close to central Dunedin.
Awesome plunger coffee. Accommodation clean and tidy.
Certainly will recommend this to anyone.
The hosts were very friendly and helpful! Older interior, but very clean. Close to downtown and botanical gardens
This motel was clean and comfortable, however fittings were very dated. Plenty of room though and staff were very helpful.
Clean, comfortable, very helpful hosts, good experience.
Enjoyed our night in Rosemary Cottage. Very good kitchen facilities and spacious bed/lounge area.
I have stayed here several times now, great location, excellent value, friendly owners, good facilities, warm beds with electric blankets & comfy too.
Make sure you ask for a room towards the back if your sensitive to traffic noise, as it is on the main drag of Dunedin. Even then its not very busy after 10pm.
I Recommend without hesitation.
Three of us stayed in a 2 bedroom cottage which was equipped to a high standard and provided a delightful 2 night stay in Dunedin.
Some noise on the Saturday night due to close proximity to main road (? Freshers Week)
It is located in student-land, and our apartment (there's nothing cottagey about them) was dark, dated, and a bit musty. But owners were friendly and helpful, and everything did function ok.
Unfortunately we stayed at Tourist Court Cottages Motel in the middle of the university orientation week. It was incredibly loud and no one got much sleep. On our first night 14/02/13 we stayed in Cottage 8....it had been redecorated and was beautifully appointed. However, the bathroom was filthy!!! I have never seen such mould in a motel/hotel shower. There was also hair on the floor where the previous occupant had cut their hair. I find this unacceptable.
On our second night 20/02/13 were stayed in Cottage 5. When I booked on line we booked for a cottage with a king bed in the lounge and two singles in the bedroom. However when we got there we were told we were in a cottage with a queen sized bed and not a king sized bed. While this is only a minor detail I booked a king sized bed specifically. I expect to receive what I pay for. Also, when the proprietor took as to our cottage he found that there was food/milk in the fridge from the previouis occupants and the fridge hadn't been cleaned. I find this unacceptable. I would not recommend this establishment
We really enjoyed our stay at this motel. Friendly helpful staff and the room was very clean and comfortable. It suited our purpose perfectly. it was pretty central to town and the university.
The management very friendly and helpful and pointed out all the tourist spots.. The unit comfortable but tired but reasonably priced. Cleaning of the unit over the 5 days very poor, The grounds very untidy need of a good clean up. The buildings in need of some major repairs.Laundry price expensive compaired to the laundramat down the road. The reason for staying in the Tourist Court Motel was that it was reasonably spacious and had a separate kitchen/dinning room.
Pros: Friendly hosts, fully equipped apartment, good location, plenty of parking. Amazing, fully stocked bookshelf in my apartment.
Cons: Mattresses & TVs could do with an upgrade
The interior of these motels is more stylish than the outside suggests. The owner is very friendly, though he said he would trim the rose growing over my entry door and never did so. Also my unit had a power cut 5 times. Can be quite noisy at night from activity on George Street (not motel's fault). But the interior was comfortable and stylish and serviced daily (also dishes washed) so would recommend.
Clean and comfortable. Manager provides great service. Guest laundry for a fee. Toilet needs to be replaced - although clean, it has unsightly marks and fails to flush properly despite the huge volume of water it uses.
Wow. Just wow. I don't think I've ever had such lovely customer service from a motel before! Felt so welcome and at home here. Would recommend to all!
Wow! For this fantastic review. You are very kind.
We would love to have you stay next time you are in Dunedin.
Once again, thank you.
John & Pam
Excellent place to stay, lovely couple, nice, clean, tidy, modern, comfortable... would definitely use again.
Thank you so much for your lovely feedback.
We would love to see you back again.
Pam & John
A nice comfortable place to stay and very good value. I had a quiet unit away from the road. Note that these cottages are advertised as 'Retro' which is part of their charm. As their website says "a unique blend of the traditional and the modern'. Arrived to a warm welcome from friendly hosts. Would be very happy to stay again.
Thank you for your kind feedback. We appreciate very much it.
We look forward to seeing you when you are next in Dunedin.
John & Pam
Great location with very friendly owners. We were somewhat disappointed though that the property is not actually cottages but a normal old-style motel. Thought that the description was a bit mis-leading
We were very happy here. Convenient to the Hospital which was the purpose of our visit to Dunedin..as well as the CBD , numerous food outlets closeby Owners extremely helpful , much appreciated, Was very clean and also quiet despite being very close proximity to the students area..Absolutely no complaints..
Thank you for your kind remarks. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay.
We look forward to seeing you again.
John & Pam
Older style moyel could do with some refurbishment. However the unit was well equipped and spotlessly clean.Comfortable bed.Good location with off street parking.Hostess made us feel very welcome.
Only one complaint. We had a unit with accomodation on the floor above and heard every footstep, toilet flushing and shower running late into the night,Next time will ask for a different unit.
This is a terrific small motel. Well located with easy access to city center and roads out of town. The managers know lots about Dunedin and clearly love their city. They had so many ideas about sites that I should not miss that I will have to return quite soon. Thanks for the room upgrade as well!!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback. We really appreciate it. We look forward to seeing you when you are next in Dunedin.
John & Pam
We booked an executive room - Ivy Cottage and were quite disappointed. The unit was quite frankly dirty. The bathroom floor had not been swept, there were hairs in the shower and on the toilet and the skirting boards were very dusty. The blinds in the rooms were thick with dust and lining in the kitchen drawers was grubby. The worst was a very large nasty stain on the valance - quite disgusting. A real shame that the cleaning is not checked as they have obviously put a lot of effort into updating the units.
Electric jug needed repairing/replacing - lif wouldn't open without using a knife to pry off.
Shower needed a better nossle. Door into the toilet needed redecorating - old newspaper glued on?? Not too sure what that was all about.
They did help in accomodating us for an extra night - so that was helpful.
Needed tongs in kitchen and a few other essentials, like grater, sieve.
Colette stayed with us for 3 nights and, although we saw her many times, did not tell us that she had any problems.
Had we known this we could have dealt with them. We have replaced the kettle with the sticky lid and the grater. We do not have tongs or sieves in the units but do hold some at reception that are available on request.
The paper on the door is where we recently had to carry out a gluing repair and had not had time to sand and repaint prior to Colette's arrival.
We thank Colette for her feedback and love to have her and her family back again for another comfortable stay. We will make sure that all is in order.
I have stayed 3 times now and love this place. People are great, rooms are roomy and very homely - you feel your at home. Even though its older, they have great little touches like a well stocked bookshelf, cotton buds in bathroom, and beds that are nice and soft (not rock hard like many motels). LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. Will be back again in November.
couldnt change rating below - i give it 5 out of 5
nice place to stay, small, warm and friendly hosts. =) recommend to others
We had to change our stay date at the last minute. This was not a problem for the hosts and they readily booked us in for a month later. We had stayed here before and found them very welcoming and it was the same this time. Would definitely recommend Tourist Court Cottages Motel to anyone looking for a very comfortable place to stay in Dunedin which is also handy to the town, hospital and university.
We returned to stay at Tourist Court Cottages Motel. As we have stayed here before, we knew what to expect - great unit, great service and so handy to everything. We'll be back later in the year.
Hi Jenny and Neil Logan
It was great to see you both again. Thank you foryour kind remarks and continued support.
Pam & John
Friendly hosts, price and compact, but nicely appointed, rooms make this a great option for a night or two's central Dunedin accommodation.
Thanks foryour kind feedback. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay. Look forward to seeing you next time around.
Pam & John
Very clean and modern room, had everything I needed. Very friendly and helpful hosts too. Would definitely stay here again, perhaps get a room further back from the road though as I'm not used to traffic noise.
Thank you for your kind feedback. When you next book, ring us first and we will make sute that we give you a unit further away from the road.
We look forward to seeing you then.
Pam & John
Nice room, heater was on all ready for me.
Great room clean and tidy, owners were very friendly and helpful and all at a great price and will stay again.
Hosts were very friendly, very helpful, rooms were warm and clean, beds comfy - close to the city - quiet and restful - we would be happy to stay here next time we are in Dunedin
We are happy that you had a good weekend here in Dunedin. Thank you for kind review. Look forward to seeing you back again.
Pam & John
Only stayed 1 night but the owner was very friendly, Would definetly stay again.
HI Neil and Julie
Thanks for your kind remarks. Look forward to seeing you back again.
Pam & John
Having stayed in nearly every motel in Dunedin during the past 20 years, this has to definitely be one of the best. We stayed in Lily Cottage which was cozy and very warm. My daughter had just had foot surgery and found the unit easy to move around on crutches. The off-street parking was great; the free wi-fi was excellent and very useful to keep in touch with family and friends. It was outstanding value for money. The only two things I would change are providing a bit more storage space for longer term stays and putting drapes on the front windows to cut down on the light at night.
Thank you so much for your kind words.
The venetian blinds on the front windows, though they provide complete privacy, are not always as effective as drapes at blocking the light from our external lights. We are looking at better ways achieving this better.
Thanks for your feedback. Look forward to seeing you next you are in town.
Bset wishes, Pam & John.
Very friendly and helpful, clean quiet and comfortable. We will be staying here again!
Thank you Bryony for your kind words.
We look forward to seeing you next time you are in town.
John & Pam
The unit is not overly large but it is very comfortable with excellent heating.
Modern equipment , quiet and close to shopping areas. Would definately make this our place to stay while in Dunedin.
Thank you Robin.
It was nice to have you and Judy stay.
See you next time around.
John & Pam
This is a very good motel, tidy, clean and the owner, John is very friendly and helpful with pointing out attractions to see. The price also very reasonable. I will be back again to this motel for my next travel to Dunedin.
Thank you Shirley for your kind feedback.
Hope to see you back again.
John & Pam
Property is very run down and very basic. Appliances didn't work and were not particularly clean. I had intended to economise by cooking meals rather than earting out but I decided not to cook due to the rundown stae of the kitchen. There was not enough cutlery or crockery for all of us despite them knowing how may people were staying. we had to ask for a dishcloth and teatowel before we got them.
The water pressure in the shower was pathetic.
We were shocked by this review, both by its nature and the fact that it is so untrue.
We tried to contact this guest by phone to see what had gone wrong as, in the four days that they stayed with us - and we spoke to them often in that time, they had always been polite and positive, with no hint of any dissatisfation.
We thought that perhaps someone had hacked into their account and left a malicious response pretendeing to be them. However they have not returned our calls.
As can be seen from our many kind and positive reviews here on Jason's and on many other review sites our property is neither basic nor run down. Quite the contrary. It is a lovley, comfortable and friendly place to stay.
Pam & John
Stayed with my parents in the third unit from the road, did not notice undue traffic noise. Was spacious and clean. Within walking distance to supermarket and town about 15mins walk. Comfortable beds and good size TV. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
Would stay here again.
avoid the budget room 9 near the road unless you want to listen to traffic all night long , and parties from the student house across the road .
The bed is too small for two people in my opinion unless you are used to a 'double' size bed .
The room smells awful . The worst air refreshner I have ever smelt .
We are sorry to hear that Stephen did not have a positive experience. Stephen stayed with us for 3 nights and at no time told us of any problems.
When he checked in we showed him into his unit to ensure that he was happy with it, as we do with all guests, and he confirmed that he was. Primrose is our smallest unit and we try hard to make sure that people know exactly what they are getting when they choose to book it. Here is the description that we give on our website and on here on Jasons:
"Primrose Cottage is SMALL and COMPACT studio unit with a DOUBLE BED and is IDEAL FOR THOSE TRAVELLING ON A SMALL BUDGET. It has en suite toilet and shower. For cooking it has refrigerator, microwave, electric frying pan, toaster, electric kettle, crockery and cutlery. It also has ironing facilities, SKY Satellite TV, DVD and Video, telephone and wireless broadband internet. AS THE COTTAGE IS CLOSE TO THE ROAD IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THOSE OVER SENSITIVE TO TRAFFIC NOISE."
We do not use air freshner, rather a deodoriser. Again, in the three days that Stehpen stayed, we had no idea that this was causing him a problem. If we had we would definitely taken action to rectify any problems.
We do hope that Stephen will read the other reviews of our motel and see that his experience was far from the norm and that he will come and stay again. We will make sure that we allocate him one of our many comforatble, spacious units - and one way back from the road.
I loved the Tourist Court Cottages Motel, they have very friendly service and will go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. Thank you for making my stay for my 18th a good one and even though we were with 4 loud girls, no fuss was made!! The motel is nice and local and it was within walking distance from almost everything !. Excellent!!, Minou.
We enjoyed our stay at Tourist Court Cottages. With a family of five it is not easy to find affordable self contained accommodation but this motel ticked all the boxes. The owners were more than helpful and took time to point out places to visit in and around Dunedin. The units were clean, warm and comfortable with great beds. We'll be back!
We thought when we booked this property that it was individual cottages as they were named and described as such, but they are not, it is a standard motel set up. The units were well appointed, clean and modern. Check in was excellent and the host very willing.
Only complaints was the water pressure with the shower was extremely poor and does need addressing, and we occupied a unit near the road ( most are) and it was very noisy as the road is a main route into Dunedin. Otherwise good value for the area.
Good central location (although close to student parties when we were there). Clean and good size rooms to cater for 5 people but old style bathroom facilities
i stayed for two nights recently., the owners are very friendly and helpful and the motel is centrally situtated. it has a very well equipped kitchen including a full oven so self catering would be easy. the decor is a bit dated but in good order, but the bed is very very comfortable and there was a good supply of hot water for the shower. the whole place is clean and well cared for.
A very comfortable and warm accommodation with friendly and inviting hosts.
Would highly recommend staying at the Tourist Court Cottages.
We have stayed at this property many times but I think this must be one of our favorite rooms. Super King bed, separate lounge, full kitchen, library of books, free wifi and great hosts - We couldn't have wished for anything more. Highly recommended.
I have stayed at this motel several times and I wouldn't stay anywhere else! The service and information provided by the hosts is second to none. The free wifi is also very much appreciated.
very friendly and helpful proprietors excellent standard of accomdation
Very convenient and comfortable. The free wi-fi was great and they had a laundry. very hospitable hosts.
Great place, Very helpful and friendly people working there.
worth to go back there again.
The host is so nice. Great service!
This accommodation is an absolute Gem. We originally planned to stay for 2 nights while we explored Dunedin but after our hosts had showed us all there was to see and do, we extended an extra night.
While the room we booked was small it was an ideal place to lay our heads after a busy day sight seeing.
The accommodation was spotless and very eco friendly, with everything we needed right down to a small library of books. They even provide 100Mb of Free WiFi every day!
It is ideally situated being close enough to walk to all the restaurants, shops and main attractions, not to mention parks and gardens
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Dunedin enriched by the knowledge and experience of our hosts John and Pam.
It was very basic, we had an upstairs room which was dated and a bit grubby , absolutely no water pressure, but the downstairs rooms looked much nicer - slightly more expensive, I guess you get what you pay for - very noisy and creaky
Stayed 2 nights in Primrose Cottage
This is a SMALL COMPACT BUDGET studio cottage with double bed that sleeps up to 2 people.
This "cottage" would have been better fitted out as a ONE PERSON room with a single, or at best king/single, bed.
The present double bed takes up almost the full width of the room. There is approx 50cm clearance between the side of the bed and the wall (which doubles as the property fence, the other side being the George st footpath).
The kitchen sink also doubles as the washbasin for personal ablutions(e.g washing hands after toilet use)
All that aside, the room was clean and served well as a base for our short stay.
The car-parking problem was solved by simply backing in off the road.
Very comfortable, clean, handy to everything - and very friendly staff.
Would definately stay again
Fantastically helpful. Great knowledge of Dunedin. Units clean and well presented
We are a family of four and enjoyed our stay att his address. the cottage was a good size for us all.
The property is not bad a bit on the old side and is in need of a bit of modernisation, The beds are comfortable but the curtains are horizontal venetians so if you wanna sleep in in the morning dont stay here in summer as it gets too light to quick. The shower also needs a bit of mains pressure behind it, however the service was excellent and the ppl friendly.
Very friendly proprieters, pleasant quiet location ( we stayed during university holidays) very spacious and well aportioned (we were in one of the family upstairs units) However, it was exceedingly windy when we stayed & we could not stop the windows from whistling, which was irritating!
Car parking space rather tight as is entrance from the street, which could be awkward if all units filled and you have a large vehicle
Bed very bouncy and therefore uncomfortable with a restless partner (my husband being the restless one, didn't notice!)
Stayed four nights - Good value for money, clean rooms, friendly accommodating hosts and the kids loved the DVD! Will definitely return again!
